The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who has visited Islamabad at the head of a political and economic delegation, continued his meetings with senior officials of the country and met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.
Dr. Zarif in this meeting, referring to the good political relations between the two countries and enumerating the opportunities for developing trade and economic relations, pointed out to some of the upcoming programs and economic cooperation, including holding a joint economic commission, reopening border crossings and markets, expanding trade and barter. Meanwhile he emphasized that neighboring countries are the priority of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy in cooperation and convergence.
During the meeting, Dr. Zarif also announced the readiness of his country to open the Rimdan border crossing in the next week to the Prime Minister of Pakistan .
The Iranian Foreign Minister thanked Pakistan for its support from the Islamic Republic of Iran in becoming a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
In this meeting, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, expressing satisfaction with the talks between Iranian Foreign Minister and Pakistani officials, emphasized the country's interest in developing political, economic and trade relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Prime Minister of Pakistan also expressed hope that we will see the further development of relations between the two countries.
During Dr. Zarif's meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, international and regional issues, especially the developments in Afghanistan and the Islamic world, were also discussed. The Iranian Foreign Minister appreciated the stance of the Prime Minister of Pakistan against the Zionist regime and his voice in condemning of the process of normalization of relations with this regime. He also praised Imran Khan's courageous stance on Islamophobia.
The two sides agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation between the countries of the region, especially Iran and Pakistan, to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan, and stressed the need for continued military cooperation to strengthen border security.
